Helping ‘Malaika’ war orphans in Bukavu
A project supported by the Byrnes’ concert in Luxembourg on 21 February 2010
‘Malaika’ (which means ‘little angel’ in Swahili) is a home for 300 orphans and abandoned children in Bukavu, the main town in South Kivu (eastern Congo). Many of the children lost their parents in the civil wars that have afflicted the Democratic Republic of Congo (former Zaire) in recent years. ‘Malaika’ is also the name given to the organisation in Luxembourg which is seeking to raise funds for the orphanage.
The project seeks to provide the children with food, a safe place to stay in and basic education and training.
